Choosing a licensed estate agent in Mauritius is now a guarantee for every buyer and every seller. Indeed, the 2020 Real Estate Agent Authority Act requires agents to register with the REAA. Here is what that changes for you.
Licensed estate agent in Mauritius: what the law says
Since 1 August 2026, registration has been compulsory for agents who sell and buy properties, as well as for land developers and property promoters. Operators file their application online on the NELS platform of the Economic Development Board. They have until 31 October 2026 to do so. In addition, the certificate is renewed every year.
A licensed estate agent in Mauritius protects your project
An unregistered agent can no longer claim or recover a commission in court. Moreover, the law provides penalties for those who practise without a certificate. A public register also lets you check your agent’s identity. This way, you avoid improvised intermediaries, especially if you buy from abroad.
What this changes for a foreign buyer
When you buy from abroad, you cannot always check who you are dealing with on the spot. This is why the certificate and the public register give you a simple point of reference. Before paying a deposit or signing a mandate, therefore, check the agent’s registration number and the written content of their assignment.
How to check a licensed estate agent in Mauritius
- First, ask for the registration number and a certificate that is still valid.
- Next, check it on the official website of the REAA.
- Finally, insist on a written mandate that states the fees clearly.
Our REAA registration: in progress
However, the registration of VIP’S H’OM with the REAA is still being processed. The agency’s application was filed under Application Ref No.: MHL-REAA-2026-284, and the processing fees have been paid. Our director, Jess Trujillo, filed hers under Application Ref No.: MHL-REAA-2026-281. We will publish our registration numbers here as soon as we receive the certificate. In the meantime, we remain at your disposal to answer all your questions.
Our commitment to transparency
At VIP’S H’OM, we publish our fees and answer all your questions before a mandate is signed. To see them, read our page on agency fees in Mauritius. Finally, contact us with any question about your project.
